Self Campaign Project; Do Good Design!

I found a strong resonance with David Berman's "Do Good Design," a book that underscores the importance of a designer's social responsibility. As a designer, I firmly believe that design has the power to inspire people and alter their behaviors, ultimately guiding them to become creative changemakers.

In his book, David Berman communicates three critical messages that he believes all designers should actively engage with:

  1. I will be true to my profession.

  2. I will be true to myself.

  3. I will spend at least 10% of my professional time helping repair the world.

I launched a self-directed campaign titled "Do Good Design!" aimed at encouraging my fellow designers to embrace socially responsible practices. For the campaign, I created a typography logo and produced a series of posters that conveyed David Berman’s core principles. I chose to address a pressing social issue—the use of sexualized images in media accessible to all ages. Specifically, I used photos from K-POP music videos on YouTube to provoke thought and discussion: Is it appropriate to use such provocative images in these videos?

I believe that good design requires careful consideration from many different aspects. It needs to have a well-intentioned purpose, an ethical process, a sense of meaning and morality, and a positive impact on the viewer.
