Type Biography; Ok-gyun Kim
I selected an Eastern and a Western historical figure and designed two posters to visually represent each person. Using only typography, I illustrated their lives and achievements. Interestingly, I used Korean letters to depict a Western character and English to represent an Eastern figure.
For the Eastern historical figure, I chose Ok-gyun Kim, a radical reformist during the late Joseon Dynasty (13th century) of Korea. He was instrumental in promoting Western ideas and science in Korea and worked tirelessly to develop the country's autonomy. To capture his strong passion for his homeland, I designed the poster using bold calligraphy. The bold strokes symbolize his unwavering will for Korea's independence.
Type Biography; Alan Turing
I chose Alan Turing, a famous English mathematician, computer scientist, and cryptanalyst. He was an expert in analyzing and breaking codes and the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. So I designed the poster with separated Korean letters and made it like a secret encrypted code.
